The Ga South Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region has celebrated its one year anniversary under the theme, “One Year of Excellence”
The Assembly was carved out of the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly in 2018 as part of the newly created Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region under the Legislative Instrument (LI) 2316 with Nglesgie Amanfro as the Municipal capital.

Hon.Joseph Nyarni Stephen, the Ga South Municipal Chief Executive delivering the anniversary speech at the durbar at the forecourt of the Assembly stated that, the Assembly has done tremendously well in terms of development projects within the space of one year.
Mr. Stephen stated that, the Assembly will undertake developmental projects in the Assembly with little or no pressure on the District Assembly common Fund (DACF).

“We would use about 60% of our IGF for capital expenditure. We will also improve the road situation in our municipality and also mobilize enough funds to stop our dependence on the District Assembly Common fund,” he noted. He further added that, the Assembly has become a top notch among leading Assemblies as many Assemblies and institutions had travelled from other places to understudy their system.

“They were simply surprised at how we have effectively used the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to improve service delivery in the Municipality. In 2018, we used about 33% of our IGF for capital Expenditure such as the grading of selected feeder roads, construction of office complex, procurement of two (2) brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles and renovation of office facilities. We have also designed our own local Revenue Management software called “the Zebra” which has greatly improved our IGF,” he explained.

Mr. Emmanuel Baisie, the Municipal Coordinating Director recounted the various developmental projects the area had seen after one year of its establishment which include the construction of six-unit classroom block and ancillary facilities at Kokrobite, rehabilitation of a six-unit classroom block at Domeabra, the construction of CHPS compound at Tomefa, and the construction of a four-storey office complex at Ngleshie Amanfro.

Present at the celebration were the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Kwasi Boateng Agyei, the Head of Local Government Service, Ing Dr.Nana Ato Arthur, Mr. Ernest Nyagbe Chief Director, Regional Co-ordinating Council and Municipal Chief Executives from sister municipalities, Assembly members, and staff of the Assembly.
