The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga South, Hon. Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, undertook a series of strategic engagements and official activities within the Municipality and beyond during the week under review. His schedules reflected his commitment to enhancing local governance, sanitation, security, education, and service delivery.
On Tuesday, Hon. Ocansey engaged residents of Kokrobitey alongside chiefs and community stakeholders to deliberate on the future use of a parcel of land where a heap of refuse had recently been cleared. To prevent indiscriminate dumping, the meeting resolved to site a refuse container at the location. The MCE further urged the traditional authorities to explore alternative development-oriented uses of the land for the benefit of the community. Residents also appealed for the establishment of more police posts to strengthen security.
On Wednesday, the Hon. MCE joined colleague MMDCEs at a meeting convened by the Minister of Local Government. Deliberations focused on sanitation initiatives, effective implementation of by-laws, and strategies for sustaining environmental cleanliness across the country.
On Thursday, Hon. Ocansey chaired a colourful graduation ceremony for 200 Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) and 14 Fire Service Assistants at the Municipal level. In his address, he advised the graduands to uphold discipline, stressing that discipline is a fundamental criterion for future recruitment into the mainstream Ghana Police Service. Later that day, he joined other dignitaries at the Two-Day National Dialogue on Decentralisation and Responsive Governance held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra. The programme, themed “Resetting Decentralisation for Responsive Local Governance and Effective Service Delivery”, brought together notable personalities including the Vice President of the Republic, Her Excellency Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang; the Finance Minister, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson; Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo; among other key stakeholders. The dialogue centered on strengthening accountability at the local level and redefining the roles of MMDCEs, Regional Coordinating Councils, traditional rulers, and faith-based organisations in governance.
On Friday, to round up the week, Hon. Ocansey graced the commissioning of a three-unit classroom block constructed and sponsored by CalBank for the community of Osofo Lamptey in the Ga South Municipality. He later paid a brief working visit to the Municipal Office before returning to participate in the final sessions of the National Dialogue.
Though relatively short, the week was filled with engagements that underscored the MCE’s dedication to advancing development, promoting sanitation, improving security, and enhancing responsive governance in Ga South.
