The 39th farmers day celebration took place at the Ga south Municipal Assembly on the 8th of November, 2024. The event highlighted the pivotal role farmers play to the development of the country at large. The assembly took pride in acknowledging that farmers serve as the most contributing factor in enhancing food security and supporting the local economy. The event featured farmers from various communities within the municipality, including Ngleshie Amanfro, Langma, Balagonor, Tuba, Bortianor and kokrobite, showcasing the area’s agricultural diversity.
The celebration at the assembly forecourt featured speeches, presentations and the presentation of awards to deserving farmers. The awards were presented in categories such as; overall best farmer, best livestock farmer, best fisherman, best crop farmer, best irrigation farmer and best AEA. Mr. Emmanuel Kpetigo Avenyo emerged the overall best farmer for Balagonor. Mr. Shak.I. Mohammed was also declared as Best livestock farmer, Mr. Joshua Aryee was also declared the best fisherman for Bortianor, Abraham Adotey was also awarded as the best crop farmer for langma, with Sheibu Agbo and Edward Neequaye emerging as the best irrigation farmer for Tuba and Best AEA respectfully.
The prizes included farming equipment, fertilizers etc. Speeches were delivered by local farmers and municipal leaders who outlined ongoing and future initiatives training and access to markets, aimed at addressing faced by the local farmers. The event underscored the assembly’s commitment to supporting agriculture and creating an enabling environment for farmers to thrive. The event also provided the avenue to address the challenges the farming community, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices and community development in agriculture.
