
The Ga South Municipal Assembly, Ngleshie Amanfro, is actively promoting the development of persons with disabilities through the interventions of the 3% Common Fund. The Assembly has presented business start-up working tools and equipment valued at Ninety Eighty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ten Ghana Cedis, Fifty pesewas (GH₵98,710.50) and money for school fees also valued at Nineteen Thousand, Two hundred and Ninety Ghana Cedis (GH₵19,290.00) . The total money valued at One Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Ghana Cedis Fifty pesewas (GH₵118,000.50) to fifty-nine (59) PWDs towards their socioeconomic empowerment.
Forty-seven (47) of the beneficiaries were provided with working tools and equipment and twelve (12) of them were supported with school fees and related needs. This comprised twenty-seven (27) females and thirty-two (32) males. The PWDs were made up of 32 physically challenged, thirteen (13) hearing impaired, nine (9) visually impaired, 3 cerebral palsy, 1 down syndrome and 1 intellectually impaired. The items presented included twenty (20) deep freezers, one (1) fridge, one thousand five hundred (1500) pineapple suckers, six (6) bags of fertilizers, one (1) desktop computer(i3), one (1) colour printer, two (2) sheep (male and female), two (2) knitting machines, two (2) sewing machines, two (2) shoemaking materials, one (1) cocoa mix machine, hair dressing equipment, pedicure and manicure equipment, barbering items, assorted provision items.

The ceremony was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Nyarni Stephen, Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Emmanuel Baisie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, Hon. Habib Saad and the Disability Fund Management Committee members.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Nyarni Stephen told the beneficiaries that, it was his fervent hope that the working tools and equipment presented would be judiciously used for the right purpose so that beneficiaries would become financially independent, look after their households, contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of their communities and consequently become fully integrated into mainstream development.
Hon. Stephen assured the beneficiaries that the 3% of the Common Fund apportioned to address the various needs of PWDs, notably; awareness creation, health, education, establishing them into businesses of their choice and their integration into mainstream development among others would be used for that purpose. He admonished the PWDs to cease going onto the street to beg for money. He also cautioned them not to sell the items but rather take advantage of the gesture by the government to better their livelihood.
Mr. Maxwell Agyiri Williams, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the government, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Assembly for the equipment. He promised that, they would use the working tools and the equipment for the intended purpose.
