The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga South, in collaboration with the National Security, the Military, Forestry Commission, Ghana Water Company Limited, Water Resources Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has undertaken an unannounced inspection exercise along the Densu River, covering the communities of Amafro Nsuonanu, Tomefa, and Ashalaja.
The inspection revealed alarming levels of encroachment, including buildings and fenced walls sited illegally within the river buffer zone. As part of the enforcement exercise, some unauthorized structures were demolished on the spot. Following a review meeting, the task force resolved that all structures illegally constructed within the Densu River enclave must be removed to safeguard the water body and avert potential environmental and public health risks. .
The MCE emphasized the urgent need for community participation in protecting the Densu River. He appealed to residents, traditional leaders, and all stakeholders to support the ongoing campaign against river encroachment, stressing that “the survival of future generations depends on our collective responsibility to protect natural resources.”
